NFL Week 14: What to Watch For

The NFL season is in full swing, and fans are eager to follow the action on the field. Week 14 offers some exciting matchups and intriguing storylines that will keep you glued to your screen. Here are some of the things to watch for in this week’s games.

The Battle for the AFC North

The AFC North is one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL, with three teams tied at 8-5 and fighting for the top spot. The Baltimore Ravens, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Cleveland Browns all have a chance to claim the division title, but they will have to face tough opponents this week. The Ravens will host the Green Bay Packers, who have the best record in the NFC and are led by MVP candidate Aaron Rodgers. The Bengals will travel to Denver to face the Broncos, who are also in the playoff hunt and have a strong defense. The Browns will host the Las Vegas Raiders, who are desperate to snap a two-game losing streak and stay alive in the wild-card race. All three games will have a huge impact on the AFC North standings and the playoff picture.

The Return of Urban Meyer

One of the most controversial figures in the NFL this season is Urban Meyer, the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Meyer, who had a successful college coaching career, has struggled to adapt to the NFL and has faced criticism for his decisions and behavior. He has clashed with his players, his staff, and the media, and has led the Jaguars to a dismal 2-11 record. This week, he will return to Ohio, where he coached the Ohio State Buckeyes for seven seasons and won a national championship. He will face his former assistant coach, Zac Taylor, who is now the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. Meyer will also face his former quarterback, Joe Burrow, who transferred from Ohio State to LSU and won a Heisman Trophy and a national title. Will Meyer be able to redeem himself in his old stomping grounds, or will he suffer another humiliating defeat?

The Race for the NFC West

The NFC West is another tight division, with two teams vying for the lead. The Arizona Cardinals have been one of the best teams in the NFL this season, with a 10-3 record and a dynamic offense led by Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins. The Los Angeles Rams have been inconsistent, but they have a 9-4 record and a talented roster that includes Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, Aaron Donald, and Jalen Ramsey. The Cardinals and the Rams will face each other on Monday night in a crucial game that could decide the division winner. The Cardinals won the first meeting in Week 4, 37-20, but the Rams have won four of their last five games and are looking for revenge. The game will also feature two of the best defensive players in the league, Chandler Jones of the Cardinals and Von Miller of the Rams, who were both traded midseason and have made an impact on their new teams.

The Rookie Quarterbacks

The 2021 NFL draft featured five quarterbacks who were selected in the first round: Trevor Lawrence of the Jaguars, Zach Wilson of the New York Jets, Trey Lance of the San Francisco 49ers, Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears, and Mac Jones of the New England Patriots. All five have had different experiences in their rookie seasons, with varying degrees of success and challenges. This week, four of them will be in action (Lance is injured) and will try to show their progress and potential. Lawrence will face off against fellow rookie Davis Mills of the Houston Texans, who was drafted in the third round and has been surprisingly solid in his starts. Wilson will face off against Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins, who was drafted in 2020 and has been improving after a slow start. Fields will face off against Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings, who is having one of his best seasons and is leading a potent offense. Jones will face off against Carson Wentz of the Indianapolis Colts, who is having a bounce-back year after a disappointing stint with the Philadelphia Eagles. All four rookie quarterbacks will have an opportunity to learn from their veteran counterparts and showcase their skills.

The Playoff Implications

As the NFL season enters its final stretch, every game matters for teams that are trying to make or avoid missing out on playoffs. There are several games this week that have significant playoff implications for both conferences. In addition to the divisional battles mentioned above, some other games to watch are:

  • The Buffalo Bills vs. The Carolina Panthers: The Bills are trying to catch up with the Patriots in the AFC East and secure
